One of our overnight stops on our tour of the National Parks of the western US was a dude ranch situated mid-way between Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. Our stay was highlighted by drinks on the veranda as the sun began to set, dinner, and live entertainment around a campfire, complete with scores. The day we arrived was one of the few days we experienced the hazy skys resulting from the smoke of wildfires on the west coast. The smoke made the sky white and the sun an orange ball of fire. The Deep Purple mid-1970’s hit song “Smoke on the Water” inspired the title of this image, which is one of the lyrics of the song.
